1990 Hexie Love

A long long time ago as a 17 year old studying Home Science at high school I embarked on my 6th form project.
A hexie patchwork quilt

I purchased a rubbish sack of curtain offcuts $5.00
I cut a template out from a plastic ice cream container
From the plastic template I cut paper templates using old wallpaper

For 6 months I handstitched hexie after hexie
Joining hexie to hexie
There were no designer fabrics
No patterns
20 odd years later I dug this quilt out from the cupboard where it had sat for at least 15 . . .

And searched for ideas on how to modernise and utilize my quilt
Linda and I have shared thoughts and ideas
I found this image on internet and thought *hmmmmm*

(I am so sorry I did not write down where I found this image and have no link -
if it is yours please contact me so I can credit you)

Your thoughts/ideas before I start picking all that handstitching .. .. ..

I like the gorgeous old quilt you made when you were young but then I am a softie for the past. Whatever you do will be lovely xxxx

I'm with Sammy too but I love your new idea for upcycling it! :-)

No ideas here but it's important to either use as is or re-invent to use again - all those hours

Its beautiful Cat. How gorgeous that you still have it. Can't wait to see what you decide to do.

Hi Cat, it's Liz. I love that you still have this after all that time - and it's cool! I wouldn't rework it but keep it as a lovely snapshot of time past.

Is is wrong to think you shouldn't do anything with it? I love it as it is :)

I too think that you should leave it as is! The 90s is very 'in' right now anyway so it's retro cool :)

Definitely, leave it as it is! Make another quilt like your picture from other scraps you have.

Wow I don't think I would have had the diligence to do that at 17...it's incredible, I honestly can't think of any ideas...I look forward to seeing what you finally decide upon x

Oh I love your quilt just the way it is! What about just adding a thin hot pink border? I'm loving those soft greys and pinks with a sudden splash of colour.
